Mandatory Local Government Waste Requirements-Site Waste Minimisation & Management Plans
Councils across Australia require a Site Waste Minimisation & Management Plan (SWMMP), also referred to as a Demolition & Construction Waste Management Plan (DCWMP) or Waste Management Plan (WMP), to accompany the majority of Development Applications when construction waste is generated. This process involves demonstrating how this waste is collected and managed onsite, and then outlines the various disposal options, depending on the waste type.

Our team offers a SWMMP preparation service which involves a strategic approach to minimising waste generation, maximising recycling, in-turn minimising disposal and waste costs, and reducing risk of Council intervention. We help your business to comply with waste management regulations, outlined in local Development Control Plans (DCPs) technical manuals and Council DA permit requirements.

We work with:
  • builders, developers
  • renovation, demolition & excavation companies
  • contractors and project managers,
to interpret legislative requirements and build awareness for onsite staff about managing the site to reflect the agreed SWMMP.  Our industry experience enables us to also guide our clients on the most suitable waste recycling opportunities, for commonly found and bespoke items. Our SWMMPs emphasise waste generation avoidance/reduction as a starting point, ensuring a complementary focus also on reuse and recycle.
Why engage us to prepare your SWMMP?
Our team have experience in:
  • working within Local Government environmental compliance and assessment teams;
  • preparing SWMMPs/WMPs/DCPs for building and property developer clients across Australia;
  • working with the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and NSW businesses to prepare business waste reduction plans with an emphasis on reducing waste generation - in 2015/2016, we were one of the the first companies in Australia to be involved in a state-wide roll out of waste management programs for businesses;
  • working on bespoke waste management stream solutions;
  • interpreting legislative and mandatory requirements for clients to avoid fines and reduce risk; and,
  • providing staff training on waste and water management to a wide range of industries to improve waste management on construction sites and within business premises.
